Zayed Waterfront
Abu Dhabi, UAE
Zayed Waterfront is conceived as a connected coastal landscape for Abu Dhabi—a place where maritime heritage, civic life and ecology converge.
The landscape unfolds as a continuous system of shaded promenades, plazas and gardens, extending the Corniche into Mina Zayed and reconnecting the city with its historic port.
A central green axis links Cruise Island, Business Island and Resort Island, bringing distinct waterfront experiences together through a shared public realm. At its heart, Zayed Plaza becomes a civic gathering place, where cultural and educational programmes meet beneath the shade of ghaf trees.
The landscape transitions from active maritime plazas and marina promenades to quieter orchards, beaches and mangrove restoration areas. This sequence connects the working identity of the harbour with opportunities for recreation and contact with coastal nature.
Swales, planted terraces and native planting support water-sensitive design, climatic comfort and ecological continuity.
Zayed Waterfront emerges as a landscape rooted in Abu Dhabi’s relationship with the sea, shaping a new public waterfront through shade, planting and shared experience.
